As you are most likely already aware, we have a serious crime problem here in the state of South Carolina and our recidivism rate is one of the highest around the country. With that said, we as probation officers have a responsibility to you as citizens and to the courts. We have the charge of protecting society while at the same time try and make transitions from prisons and jails as smooth as possible for the offenders we supervise. We have found, and national studies confirm, the sooner we get this population of people working, their chance of becoming law-abiding tax paying citizens is significantly increased. The correlation between employment and crime is significant. We believe that with your help we can make positive changes in our communities and in many lives and at the same time support business and economic development.

FINANCIAL INCENTIVES

Work Opportunity Tax Credit

This is a federal tax credit that encourages employers to hire ext targeted groups of job seekers by reducing employers’ federal income tax liability by as much as $2,400 per qualified new worker.

Federal Bonding Program

This program reduces an employer’s insurance liability by up to $5,000 against theft, forgery, embezzlement or larceny committed by an employee.
